Uruguay Street
IGA Role: Landscape Design
Location: Beirut, Lebanon
Located behind Samir Kassir’s Square and around a building where a cluster of pubs and restaurants elected domicile, the Uruguay Street is a U-shaped passage that required up- grading to suit the newly introduced function and the expected booming nightlife.
As an extension to the ground floor emerging commerce, the Uruguay Street was soon destined to become a plaza with a predominant pedestrian character and occasional vehicular access.
Final Design Simulations
Due to its relatively narrow width (around 10m), its linear aspect and the newly allocated area for the outdoor seating, the space was approached as one entity with minimal intervention. The surface treatment stretched throughout the entire space in a dynamic yet subtle weave to welcome all sorts of events.
