Why Women’s Day
On 8 March the rights of women worldwide are celebrated. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. The UN Women association will focus this year’s theme on “An Equal world is an enabled world”.
We are far from achieving gender equality in Lebanon, however, we have made some advances that are notable and female voices have been the highlight of the Lebanese uprising. Women’s day offers an occasion to reflect on progress made in the Lebanese society, to advocate for change, and to celebrate all the inspiring women around us, who continue to play an extraordinary role in the pursuit for a more equitable society, against all odds.
Why we care
At Round the Corner we encourage sustainable development, which focuses on 3 pillars: People, Planet, and Profit.
Many Lebanese women have started remarkable initiatives for environmental sustainability: from organizations aimed to reduce food waste, to books and short films documenting local product making, with the intention of supporting Lebanese village women and traditions. These are the superwomen we want to collaborate with and put in the spotlight!
