Rachana Eco-Village Master Plan

IGA Role: Full design

Location: Rachana, Lebanon

Located in Batroun, North Lebanon, at an altitude of 300m above sea level, Rachana is a Lebanese village of agricultural and residential land use, covering an area of 1,129,000 m². In addition to the typical characteristics of the Lebanese rural areas, this village owes the artistic works of the Basbous brothers its reputation.

Three creative artists recognized mainly for their sculptures, the legacy of the Basbous family, transformed Rachana into a “Village Museum” adding to its individuality and uniqueness.

With an increasing real estate pressure in urban cities and rural areas alike due to population growth, the interest of foreign investors and the return or continuous visits of Lebanese expatriates, it has become critical to put in place a master plan that would achieve a sustainable development of the countryside where villages like Rachana are located.

Such a plan would not only guarantee a prosperous and sustainable development for Rachana, but also help protecting its identity and preserving its character, which is the objective of the Rachana Foundation.

Concerned by the threat of the unplanned development, the Foundation appointed IGA the official consultant for this project, due to the firm’s extensive research in the sustainability field in general and the development of rural areas in particular, not forgetting its policy of non-profit contribution to the community.
